Mr. Dag Kr. Norli is the Chair/CEO of the Norwegian trust BioCosmos Africa which is the mother trust of BioCosmos Tanzania & Kenya, and he is in-charge of all operation of the trust. His educational background and as well work experience is in Business, Management and International Marketing. He has worked in leading positions in Norwegian companies with international business and has for the 25 last years travelled worldwide and have through the years gained a lot of international cultural experience and understanding. He has been the architect behind the organizational structure of BioCosmos and is the initiator and founder of BioCosmos Tanzania and Kenya.

He is an alumnus of the Discovery Institute, Center for Science and Culture in Seattle, USA where trained in Intelligent Design in the Natural Sciences and also attended the African Seminar on Intelligent Design. Mr. Norli has for years studied and read various books on the subject of Intelligent Design.

Professor Godliving Mtui

Vice Chair, BCT

Prior to his appointment, he held various positions at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) including being the Director of Postgraduate Studies (2018); Deputy Principal (Academic Affairs) at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE, 2012 - 2017); Head of Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CoNAS, 2006 - 2011) and Ag. Coordinator of Applied Microbiology Unit (2005). His academic and professional career can be traced back from his basic education at Ashira Primary School (1969 - 1976) and Lyamungo Secondary School (1977 - 1979). He then joined the Dar es Salaam Technical College (DTC, currently the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, DIT) where he got his Full Technician’s Certificate (FTC) in Laboratory Technology (1981-1983). He was drafted and completed the compulsory Tanzania’s National Service Army (JKT) at Bulombora, Kigoma Region in 1984. He then joined the Ministry of National Education where he worked as a Laboratory Technician at Jangwani Secondary School (1985 -1986) before moving to the Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) where he was employed as a Chemist (1987 - 1990). Having graduated at UDSM with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry & Botany) Honours Degree in 1991, he was recruited at UDSM as a Tutorial Assistant in May, 1991. In 1992 he won a Monbusho (Japanese Government) Scholarship to do Japanese Language Studies at Nagoya University and later he moved to Kanazawa University where he was recruited as a Research Associate in 1993. He thereafter pursued his Masters Degree (Environmental Biotechnology, 1993 - 1994) and PhD Degree (Microbial Biotechnology, 1997 - 1999) both at the Kanazawa University in Japan. In 2000 - 2001, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Kanazawa University. Between 2007 and 2011, he periodically served as a Visiting Researcher at the Uppsala University, Sweden. At the University of Dar es Salaam, he rose through the academic ranks as he got promoted to Assistant Lecturer (1996), Lecturer (1999), Senior Lecturer (2004), Associate Professor (2009) and Full Professor (2013). Prof. Godliving Mtui has served in various capacities in different institutions as follows: Assistant Treasurer (Biotechnology Forum, Tanzania, 2002 – 2009); Ag. Secretary General, Biotechnology Association of Tanzania (BAT, 2009 – 2011); Chief Editor, Tanzania Journal of Science (2009 - 2013); Chairperson, National Biotechnology Advisory Committee (NBAC), Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH, 2010 - 2015); Member, Tanzania Bureau of Standards, (TBS) Technical Committee on Microbiological Specification for Foods; External Examiner, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST, 2012 - 2015); Chairperson of the Executive Committee, Tanzania Educational and Research Network (TERNET, 2015 - 2018); Member; UDSM Senate (2012 - 2018); Member, Governing Board, Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE, 2017 - 2018); Member, Governing Board, Stella Marris Mtwara University College (STEMMUCO, 2016 to-date); Member, Control Board, Tanzania Military Academy, (TMA, 2017 to-date); Member, MUST Council (2018 to-date); Member, MUST Senate (2018 to-date). As a Researcher, Supervisor and Consultant, he has won the following Scholarly Grants: MONBUSHO (Postgraduate and Postdoctoral studies’ sponsorships, 1992 - 2002); Sida-SAREC (Molecular Biology and Vicres Projects, 1999 - 2006); NUFFIC-MHO (Malagarasi Wetlands Project, 2003 - 2004); WIOMSA (Fungal Enzymes Project, 2005 - 2006); Swedish Research Council (Enzymology of Lignocellulosic Biomass Project) and Erasmus+ Quality Education Project, 2018). His research and consultancy areas are: Microbial Enzyme Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Technology, Microbiological Water Quality; Plant Science and Technology and Plastic Biodegradation. He has already published two Theses, authored and co-authored 41 International Journal Papers, 14 Conference Proceeding Papers, 13 Non-referred Conference Papers and various Scientific Reports. Prof. Godliving Mtui has supervised more than 30 Research (Undergraduate and Postgaduate) Students. Moreover, he has attended more than 100 international, regional and in-country Conferences, Workshops and Symposia. He is an experienced leader, having attended various leadership and managerial courses around the world including Japan, Sweden, United Kingdom, Israel, Botswana, and East Africa Community (EAC) member countries. Born at Marangu in Kilimanjao Region on 21st December 1960, Prof. Godliving Mtui is a last-born son in the family of eight children, his father being the Late Yesusaa Mtui and his mother the Late Perpetua Mtui. He is married to Rose Sallema Mtui and they are blessed with three children – Gladness Mtui, Victor Mtui and Walter Mtui.

Dr. Fred Chibwana

Board Member, Secretary, BCT

Dr Fred Demetrius is a lecturer at the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Conservation within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Dar Es Salaam (UDSM). At the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Dr Chibwana worked as a tutorial assistant from 2007 to early 2009, as an assistant lecturer from 2009 to November 2014, and as a lecturer from November 2014 to January 2022. Since January 2022, Dr Chibwana has been working as a Senior Lecturer. He is involved in teaching Zoology and Wildlife Courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr Chibwana obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and Wildlife Sciences in 2005 and a Master of Science in Applied Zoology in 2009, both degrees were obtained from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. He graduated with his PhD in Zoology in 2014 at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Besides, he has been an African Climate Change Fellowship Program ACCFP Postdoctoral fellow in Climate change at Egerton University, Kenya, between 2015-2016. He is also an alumnus of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation after successfully completing Alexander von Humboldt’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Biology at Justus Liebig University, Germany, from 2018 to 2020.

Dr. Chibwana has acquired diverse skills and knowledge throughout his academic endeavours, including parasitology, microscopy, freshwater malacology, taxonomy epidemiology, molecular genetics, and Bioinformatics. He is currently leading a molecular lab at the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Conservation after acquiring DNA technical skills from the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), South Africa (2 months in 2008), the Institute of Parasitology, Czech Republic (3 months in 2011), Environment Canada/Concordia University, Canada (3 months in 2012) and Justus Liebig University, Germany (2 years from 2018 to 2020).
